Islamic scholars interpret that the harsh punishment of stoning was specific to the time and context in which it was revealed, and that the Quranic principles of mercy, forgiveness, and justice should be applied in modern times. The Quran emphasizes the importance of justice, fairness, and compassion, and it is understood that the laws and punishments outlined in the Quran are subject to interpretation and contextual application. **
